How Solar Water Heating Works
A solar water heating system on your roof will provide years, even decades, of reliable service. For most homes, a solar water heater will almost completely replace the traditional gas or electric heater with renewable, clean, free energy from the sun.
In Russell & Sun Solar’s FSEC-approved design, it all starts in the Rheem SolarAide 80g water tank. This specially designed solar tank draws water from the bottom of the tank and circulates it through copper plumbing to the collector on the roof.
Our systems are so efficient that even the circulation pump is powered by the sun; your home will have hot water even when grid powerfails.
The water is heated by the sun in a highly efficient AET solar collector as it passes through the absorber plate.
The water is returned to the tank through a continuous copper pipe to the top of the tank, where it is drawn on demand for use in the home.
Additionally, there are freeze protection measures, air vents, and other valves to ensure reliable and safe operation for the life of the system.
For an added measure of safety, Russell & Sun Solar uses a specially-designed anti-scald valve before the solar-heated water enters your home to ensure the water at the tap is not too hot.
